Parent & Family Advisory Council (PFAC)

The Parent & Family Advisory Council (PFAC), comprised of parents of current UNCG undergraduate students, is charged with serving as the board for the Parent & Family Association. The PFAC meets bi-annually to discuss current issues and ideas concerning the UNCG community. They also assist in planning events, contribute to publications for UNCG families, help raise funds for special projects, recruit new members to the Parent & Family Association, and serve as presenters at SOAR and other UNCG events.

Mission

The mission of the Parent & Family Advisory Council of The University of North Carolina at Greensboro is to strengthen the quality of the UNCG educational experience by promoting communication, inspiring good will and support for the University, and enhancing high quality programs and educational opportunities for students.

PFAC Scholarship

The Parent & Family Advisory Council, in conjunction with the Office of Orientation & Family Programs, is responsible for administering the Parent & Family Advisory Council scholarship annually. The purpose of the scholarship is to recognize students who have inspired good will and support for the University. Students applying must be in good academic and conduct standing, have at least one family member who is a member of the Parent & Family Association, and have engaged in activities on- or off-campus that have fostered good will and support for UNCG.

All students interested in applying must submit an online application and letter of reference. To access the online application and review full application details, click HERE. The application deadline is Friday, April 10 at 5:00pm. If you have questions about the scholarship or application process, contact Megan Moore, Assistant Director of Orientation & Family Programs, at mpmoore@uncg.edu or (336) 334-5231.

The Parent & Family Advisory Council scholarship has been made possible through generous donations from UNCG parents and family members to the Spartan Families Fund. If you would like more information about or are interested in contributing to the Spartan Families Fund, please contact Terri Clark at (336) 334-5984 or t_burris@uncg.edu.

The PFAC scholarship is awarded during the spring semester and applications will be available in March.

    • The Council will meet twice per year (typically in April and on Family Weekend in September) and will discuss possible agenda items for its next meeting.)
    • The Council will serve as a sounding board for ideas brought to them by the University’s liaison to this group.
    • The University will facilitate presentations, discussions and tours for Council meetings and identify appropriate resources for those meetings.
    • The University will maintain a website to which parents and families can turn for timely information.
    • The University will provide a parent and family listserv that will be used to notify subscribers of significant issues/events on campus.
    • The University will publish a parent and family newsletter at least twice a year to provide information of special interest to parents and families.
  2. Inspire good will and support for the University.
    • Council members will work with the university to develop positive relationships in communities across the state and will advocate and promote the University as appropriate.
  3. Enhance high quality programs and educational opportunities for students and their families.
    • Council members will help the university grow its “career mentor” network in an effort to connect students with individuals in careers in which they are interested.
    • Council members will support the University in its annual Family Weekend program and provide ideas and advice on program ideas and format.
