Freshmen Summer Reading Project
Purpose:
The Freshmen Summer Reading Project is designed to introduce new students to the intellectual life of UNCG. This project involves reading one of several chosen books over the summer, and participating in a one-hour discussion with select faculty and staff members. The Freshmen Summer Reading Project, offered through Orientation & Family Programs, is an opportunity for new students to become immersed into the UNCG academic environment prior to arriving on campus in the fall. Students have the opportunity to get to know a faculty member in a small group setting and to meet other students with similar interests.
Goals:
The goals of the Freshmen Summer Reading Project are to have new students begin to understand better the culture of a university academic environment, expectations and relationships with faculty, to have students in particular fields of study connect with a faculty member and other students in their school or department, to enhance a sense of community between students, faculty and staff, and to provide a common experience for incoming students.
